Description

The Elblag Canal, also known as the Elblag-Ostroda Canal, is a 150-year-old waterway stretching over 80 km from Elblag to Ostroda. It is Poland’s longest navigable canal and among the most remarkable canals in Europe.

The canal overcomes a 100-meter difference in water level between Druzno Lake and Piniewo Lake using an innovative system of inclined planes. Instead of traditional locks, boats are lifted out of the water, placed on tracks, and dragged across dry land, a unique engineering solution.
